Helping Turtles Cross The Road

With warmer weather, turtles are on the move and sometimes need to cross a road to get to their destination.  Please help uninjured turtles across the road, if you can safely pull your vehicle over.  Be sure to take them in the same direction that they were headed.

A couple of things they don't mention that you may want to keep in mind...

  • Consider holding the turtle as far out from your body as your strength will permit because the stress may contribute to the turtle relieving itself.
  • If nervous about getting bitten by a snapping turtle, consider gently pushing it from behind with a blunt object.
